To Jab or Not to Jab? : Our Ancestors and Vaccination

What happened the last time vaccination was made compulsory in the UK ?

Vaccination against smallpox was as hotly debated by our ancestors as vaccination against Covid is today. In 1853, a Vaccination Act made jabs compulsory for everyone over three months of age. And the people were not happy.....

Fines and periods of imprisonment for non-compliance were commonplace. Communities marched in protest, campaign groups were set up, the laws had to change....

Where did your ancestor stand on all this? Was his or her family vaccinated? And if not, why not and what happened next ?

Find out more in my article, 'To Jab or Not To Jab: Our Ancestors and Vaccination,' in Dec 21's issue of Who Do You Think You Are ?  magazine.
